It’s time of year again. Time to pull the GE for the semi annual bottom inspection. Rob and Steve helping until very late Sunday night cleaning all the nooks and crannies that the CG look for and did a great job. Yesterday Rob and I took the GE over the Dinko’s boat yard for the undertaking. It is always an awesome sight to see the GE coming out of the water. If you think the GE looks big in the water, you should see her out of the water.
This time Dinko seemed to be having problems pulling the boat. I was a little concerned as he has over 50 years experience at this. He even went in the yard launch and checked the water side of the GE before pulling her out of the water. After the boat was out he came over to me and told me that he moved the blocks so he come repair the worm shoe that I had told him about. The man is a genius when it comes to boat building. The worm shoe, by the way, is a sacrificial piece of wood that attracts worms so that do not damage the hull of the boat.
After the boat is back in the water I hope I will have some pics to share with you.
Now about diving…..
The last few weeks the diving has been a little tough. The ocean again, is just being a little snotty. We did though make Farnsworth with Sea Divers on Saturday and they made two dives there with vis good below 100’. We dove the west pinnacle, and I got reports of the purple coral being the biggest that that diver had ever seen. We then moved around the corner to “Black Rock” and the vis was about 40’ and very pretty. The Sea Divers pay for an extra captain for these trips so those who braved the cold got in 4 dives.
Sunday we headed out for SBI. It was a very bumpy night, but in the morning, the divers woke up to the beautiful green, SBI. I love the islands this time of year; they look similar to other tropical islands with all the rain. Anyway, we made our first dive at “Black Caverns”. And for the forth time, I actually put the anchor right in the opening of the cavern. I of course brag about it, but it is shear luck and timing. Here the divers had good vis and really enjoyed the dive. Then off to “Suttle Island”. We dove the inside cove and again the divers had a great time. We then started to move over to the “Rookery” and went between “3 Sisters” and Suttle and off to my left was a whale! I could not believe that a whale was in that close to shore. We followed it a little while and it stayed very close to shore. I moved out, as I was concerned that perhaps it was going to ground itself. We then lost sight of it, so I guess it moved out to deeper waters.
We finally got to the Rookery and the divers had fun with the sea lion pups. There were hundreds of them. More than I have seen in years. Lori, one of our regulars, was actually herding them and they would in turn follow her for a while. She only got out because she got cold.

Until next time………….
