Ship's log 11/27/02

Of course, this once again is way over due. Was sitting here enjoying some fine wine and a cigar, when Elvira jumped into my lap and asked me what was wrong. This year is quickly coming to an end. With many things to reflect on. GE has not had one accident this year. My sister has survived breast cancer. My niece has been married. Several long time employees have left GE, while another has returned. No major damage to the GE. I am being sued because we saved a divers life.
Most of these though are very insignificant in the major scheme of life. Only one is important. I have a new cook who, with all things considered, the best I have had on the GE. Bill has been an avid diver in the GE for about 2 years. When he heard that I was looking for crew he called and said that he would like to try. I called him back and he came to work for me. He started on the deck, but as things turned out, he was much better in the galley. He has been there since his second trip out.
Bill and his girl friend have been expecting their baby for a while now, with much anticipation. Last night Bill called me, and told me of the coming of his new son, with the pride that only a new Father has.
Billed called me today. He is at he hospital right now waiting. His son has pneumonia, and something else. He is in intensive care. As of this writing, don't know if he will make it or not.
I asked Bill if he was going to enjoy "Thanksgiving" or what. He told me he would not, until he had something that he could be thankful for.
Thanksgiving is tomorrow. If it is not too much to ask. When you all sit down for your turkey dinner, and say grace. Will you please think of Bill's son, just for a minute? Maybe it will help, it can't hurt.

Everyone please enjoy a very nice "Turkey Day", and eat too much.
