Ship's log 12/21/01 We tried for Friday night dive, but the weather once again, was against us. I guess it's just that time of year. Many called to see if Saturday was a go. I told them we would have to wait until the morning. All arrived and we crept out past the break wall to see what was going on. Well…. A little bump, but not too bad. We hit a couple of nasty sneakers in the middle but that was all. The West End was out, so where to? After a quick thought, "Black Sea Bass" we headed for "Italian Gardens". This has quickly become the home for the Black Sea Bass at Catalina. We anchored without incident, and started diving. The water was not real clear, but about the best for the island. Several hugh bass were seen, and pictures taken. Now there is a debate to see if the picture of the bass taken by Elaine is the same bass that Ken took a picture of a couple of weeks ago. I looked at them, and they are close. Second dive was at Yellow Tail Point, water was a little clearer, but not by much. The last dive was at the Quarry, much better vis. The trip home was much better than last weeks. If any of you look at the BBS, (diving.net BBS) a post was put up about two days ago by the wife of the last victim of Farnsworth Banks. I responded to her privately, and can only hope that it helps. Many people helped in the recovery of her husband, and to them thank you. I have over 4000 dives to date. I have dove Farnsworth many, many times. To this day I still do not know why it takes so many lives. It is beautiful, with coral that cannot be seen anywhere else. It is not a hard dive, but still remains one of the most dangerous dives in California. When you get a chance to dive it, just be careful, and enjoy the sights. Oh yeh, I'm off on the "Love Boat" to Mexico for the next 4 days for Christmas. Hope all of you have a very merry Christmas.
